About this job
Staff Selection Commission has opened the Sub-Inspector in Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Forces Examination 2026 - 1,871 posts, and a bachelor's degree in ANY discipline is the qualification. Notice E/37/2026-C-2. Applications close 30 SEPTEMBER 2026 at 23:00.
FOUR EXAMINATION CENTRES IN J&K AND LADAKH - SRINAGAR (1007), JAMMU (1004), SAMBA (1010) and LEH (1005). All four sit in SSC's North Western Region at Chandigarh, which covers J&K, Ladakh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal and Chandigarh.
AND HERE IS SOMETHING ALMOST NOBODY REPORTS: THE HEIGHT AND CHEST RELAXATION NAMES US DIRECTLY. The notice grants relaxation in height and chest measurement, on production of a certificate from the district authority, to candidates from the KASHMIR VALLEY and the LEH & LADAKH regions - and separately to DOGRAS. If you have been put off by the 170 cm standard, read that paragraph before you rule yourself out.
A NOTE ON THE NUMBER. SSC prints no combined total anywhere in this notice. The 1,871 figure - ours and everyone else's - is the sum of four separate rows: SI (Executive) Delhi Police Male 205, SI (Executive) Delhi Police Female 112, SI (General Duty) in CAPFs 1,320, and SI (Fire) in CISF Male 234. We added them ourselves from the printed table.
THE 1,320 CAPF POSTS are spread across CRPF, BSF, ITBP, CISF and SSB, with 132 of them reserved for Ex-Servicemen at 10 per cent.
AGE IS 20 TO 25 as on 1 August 2026 for most posts. SI (Fire) in CISF is the exception at 18 to 30. Relaxation of five years for SC and ST, three years for OBC.
QUALIFICATION is a bachelor's degree from a recognised university in ANY discipline. The one exception is SI (Fire) in CISF, which needs a bachelor's with Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics, or a relevant engineering diploma.
THE FEE IS Rs 100 - AND WOMEN PAY NOTHING. Women candidates, and SC, ST and eligible Ex-Servicemen, are all fully exempt.
PHYSICAL STANDARDS, because this is a uniformed post and they decide it.
MEN, general: height 170 cm; chest 80 cm unexpanded and 85 cm expanded. Running: 100 metres in 16 seconds, and 1.6 km in 6.5 minutes.
WOMEN: height 157 cm general, 155 cm for hill areas and the North East, 154 cm for Scheduled Tribes. Running: 100 metres in 18 seconds, and 800 metres in 4 minutes. Long jump 2.7 metres and high jump 0.9 metres, three chances each.
The PET and PST stage is ELIMINATING - you either meet the standard or you are out, regardless of your written marks.
THE EXAMINATION. Paper-I is a computer based test of 100 questions for 100 marks in one hour, across four sections of 25 questions each - General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Knowledge and General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension. Negative marking is 0.25 per wrong answer.
Paper-II covers the same four subject areas, runs two hours with sectional timing, and is weighted heavily towards English Comprehension. NEGATIVE MARKING IN PAPER-II IS 0.50 PER WRONG ANSWER - double Paper-I, so guessing is expensive. Check the scheme table in the notice for the exact question and mark distribution.
The examination schedule is stated as to be notified later.
ONE MORE THING THAT COSTS PEOPLE THEIR APPLICATION. If you have applied to SSC before through the old ssc.nic.in site, that One-Time Registration does not work on ssc.gov.in. Register afresh before you open the form, and do it now rather than on 30 September.
Apply at ssc.gov.in.
