AIIMS Awantipora has advertised 40 Senior Resident and Senior Demonstrator posts across 31 departments - the largest single intake of doctors at the Kashmir AIIMS this year, and the applications close on 27 August. A correction before anything else, because this is circulating under the wrong name. Several sites are running it as AIIMS Jammu recruitment. The posts are at AIIMS Awantipora in Pulwama. AIIMS Vijaypur Jammu only hosts the advertisement and conducts the interview. That distinction matters practically, because the work is in Kashmir but the interview is in Jammu. Reporting time is 09:30 AM and attendance closes at 11:30 - so a candidate from Srinagar or Pulwama should plan to travel the day before rather than the same morning. The age ceiling is 45, which is unusually generous and puts these posts within reach of doctors who have aged out of most other central recruitment this season.

What you'll do

• Serve as a Senior Resident or Senior Demonstrator at AIIMS Awantipora for a maximum engagement of three years
• Work in the department applied for, under the terms of the Central Residency Scheme 1992
• Take leave as a temporary government servant under the CCS (Leave) Rules 1972, with encashment on the same footing
• Attend the interview at AIIMS Vijaypur Jammu with original documents and two sets of self-attested photocopies

• Unreserved 18, OBC 10, SC 6, ST 3, EWS 3. PwBD reservation of 4 per cent applies horizontally within each category for candidates with at least 40 per cent disability.
• DEPARTMENTS WITH MORE THAN ONE POST
• Trauma & Emergency Medicine 3. Two each in Biochemistry, General Medicine, Hospital Administration, Microbiology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Pathology and Paediatrics.
• One post each in Anaesthesia, Anatomy, Cardiology, Community Medicine, Dentistry, Dermatology, ENT, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Nephrology, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Pharmacology, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Physiology, Psychiatry, Pulmonary Medicine, Radiology, Radiotherapy, Transfusion Medicine & Blood Bank and Urology.
• QUALIFICATION
• For nearly every department, a postgraduate medical degree - MD or DNB in the relevant specialty, MS for General Surgery and ENT, MDS for Dentistry. The super-specialty departments accept either the broad-specialty MD/DNB or the DM/DrNB: Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology and Nephrology all take MD/DNB in Medicine or Paediatrics as an alternative.
• Only three departments admit non-medical candidates as Senior Demonstrators - Anatomy, Biochemistry and Pharmacology - and those require an M.Sc or M.Biotech in the subject plus a PhD in the subject or an allied one.
• THE CUT-OFF THAT CATCHES PEOPLE
• The qualifying degree must be passed and the result declared on or before 27 August 2026, and the tenure of that degree must also be complete by the same date. A candidate awaiting a result on 28 August is not eligible.
• WHO CANNOT APPLY
• Anyone who has completed three years of residency under the Central Residency Scheme. Total Senior Residency tenure is capped at three years, and any period already served as a Senior Resident in the same specialty at another teaching institution counts against it - only the balance remains available.
• AGE
• Upper limit 45 years as on the closing date. Relaxations: SC and ST five years, OBC three years, PwBD ten years rising to thirteen for OBC and fifteen for SC/ST, and a further five years for Ex-Servicemen and commissioned officers on the stated conditions. Age relaxation does not apply to SC, ST or OBC candidates applying against Unreserved vacancies.
• HOW SELECTION WORKS
• There is no shortlisting. Every applicant is provisionally invited to the interview without any prior scrutiny of eligibility. Documents are examined by the Institute's scrutiny committee on the day itself, and only candidates whose certificates are found in order are allowed to appear before the board.
• PAY
• Level-11, basic Rs 67,700, for medical candidates. Level-10, basic Rs 56,100, for non-medical candidates holding an M.Sc with a PhD. Usual allowances apply above these figures.
