PGIMER Chandigarh is recruiting 243 Nursing Officers on regular, direct recruitment basis. Advertisement No. PGI/RC/055/2026/2276, dated 9 September 2026. Applications run 10 SEPTEMBER to 3 OCTOBER 2026. THIS IS A PERMANENT GROUP B CENTRAL GOVERNMENT POST AT PAY LEVEL-7 - Rs 44,900 to Rs 1,42,400. PGIMER is one of the country's foremost medical institutes, and 243 nursing posts in a single advertisement is the largest opening of its kind we have carried. A B.Sc NURSING GRADUATE NEEDS NO EXPERIENCE AT ALL. This is the point most listings blur. There are two separate routes and they are not the same: ROUTE A - a B.Sc (Hons) in Nursing, or a regular B.Sc Nursing course, or a Post Basic B.Sc Nursing from a recognised University or Institute, PLUS registration as a Nurse or Nurse and Midwife (RN or RN & RM) with a State Nursing Council. NO EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. ROUTE B - a Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) from a recognised Board or Council, PLUS State Nursing Council registration, PLUS ONE YEAR of experience in a hospital of AT LEAST FIFTY BEDS, gained after the qualification. So a fresh B.Sc Nursing graduate can apply straight away. A GNM diploma holder cannot, until that year is behind them and it was in a fifty-bed hospital. JAMMU IS A COMPUTER BASED TEST CITY - AND IT IS THE ONLY ONE IN J&K. PGIMER lists 29 examination cities and Jammu is number 16. There is NO Srinagar centre. The nearest alternatives are Amritsar, Bathinda, Patiala, Phagwara, Chandigarh/Mohali or Delhi/NCR. AND APPLY EARLY, BECAUSE THE NOTICE SAYS SO ITSELF. The city once chosen and allotted WILL NOT BE CHANGED, and no request is entertained. PGIMER advises candidates to complete the application early rather than waiting for the last date, precisely to avoid missing out on the city of their choice. If you want Jammu, apply in September. THE 243 POSTS: UR 99, OBC 66, SC 36, EWS 24, ST 18. Ten posts are reserved horizontally for candidates with benchmark disabilities. Some of these posts were created by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare for the Advanced Mother & Child (MCH) Centre at PGIMER. AGE IS 18 TO 35, reckoned as on 3 October 2026, the last date of application. Relaxation as per rules for reserved categories. THE FEE IS NOT SMALL, AND WOMEN ARE NOT EXEMPT. Rs 1,500 plus transaction charges for General, OBC and EWS candidates. Rs 800 plus charges for SC and ST. Only Persons with Benchmark Disabilities are exempt. Pay by debit card, credit card or net banking - the notice says to AVOID UPI. SELECTION IS A COMPUTER BASED TEST, WITH NO INTERVIEW STAGE. 100 multiple choice questions, 100 marks, 100 minutes, in ENGLISH ONLY. Negative marking is 0.25 per wrong answer. Minimum qualifying marks are 40 per cent for General and EWS, and 35 per cent for SC, ST and OBC. Candidates are then shortlisted at THREE TIMES the number of posts for scrutiny and document verification. EVERYTHING IS ANNOUNCED ON PGIMER'S WEBSITE ONLY. What you'll do

• Serve as a Nursing Officer, Group 'B', on the regular establishment of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh
• Provide nursing care across PGIMER's wards, units and specialities, including the Advanced Mother & Child (MCH) Centre for which several of these posts were created
• Hold and maintain valid registration as a Nurse, or Nurse and Midwife, with a State Nursing Council
• Draw pay at Level-7 of the 7th CPC pay matrix, Rs 44,900 to Rs 1,42,400

What we're looking for

• QUALIFICATION - TWO ROUTES, AND THEY ARE NOT EQUIVALENT
• ROUTE A - NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
• (I) B.Sc (Hons) in Nursing from a recognised University or Institute; OR a regular course in B.Sc Nursing from a recognised University or Institute; OR Post Basic B.Sc Nursing from a recognised University or Institute.
• (II) AND registration as a Nurse, or Nurse and Midwife (RN or RN & RM), with a State Nursing Council.
• A fresh B.Sc Nursing graduate with registration is eligible immediately.
• ROUTE B - ONE YEAR'S EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
• (I) Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) from a recognised Board or Council.
• (II) AND registration as a Nurse, or Nurse and Midwife, with a State Nursing Council.
• (III) AND ONE YEAR of experience in a hospital of MINIMUM FIFTY BEDS, acquired AFTER obtaining the qualification at B(I).
• A GNM diploma holder without that year, or whose year was in a smaller hospital, is not eligible.
• AGE
• 18 to 35 years. The crucial date for qualification, age and experience is the LAST DATE OF APPLICATION, 03.10.2026 - not the advertisement date. Age relaxation applies for reserved categories per rules.

• Post code NUR/001, Group 'B'. Unreserved 99, OBC 66, SC 36, EWS 24, ST 18.
• Ten posts are reserved horizontally for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities - OA, OL, CP, LC, Dwarfism, Acid Attack Victims, SLD, and MD involving those categories - being four per cent of vacancies as notified on 04.01.2021.
• Unreserved vacancies are open to candidates of all categories.
• Several of these posts were created by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare for the Advanced Mother & Child (MCH) Centre at PGIMER.
• PAY
• Level-7 of the 7th CPC pay matrix: Rs 44,900 to Rs 1,42,400. Regular, direct recruitment - not contract.
• SELECTION - A COMPUTER BASED TEST, NO INTERVIEW
• 100 multiple choice questions, 100 marks, 100 minutes duration.
• THE PAPER IS IN ENGLISH ONLY.
