The National Informatics Centre - the body that builds and runs most of the government's digital systems, under the Ministry of Electronics and IT - is recruiting 376 Scientific/Technical Assistants. The whole thing turns on one condition, so check it before reading further: YOU NEED A VALID GATE SCORE from 2024, 2025 or 2026 in the paper matching your discipline. For those who qualify, what makes it unusual: THERE IS NO WRITTEN EXAM AND NO INTERVIEW. The merit list is drawn purely in order of GATE score, category-wise within each discipline. Nothing else is scored. GATE 2024, 2025 and 2026 all carry equal weightage, so an older score is not penalised - and in a tie, the OLDER year actually ranks higher. That matters for candidates here in a practical way. With no exam, there is no test centre to travel to. The only journey is document verification, and that is held at Delhi - at your own cost, since NIC pays no TA or DA. The 376 split: Computer Sciences & IT 300, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence 50, Electronics and Communication Engineering 26. A further 19 posts within those totals are reserved horizontally for PwBD candidates. Qualification is M.Sc., MS, MCA, B.E. or B.Tech in the listed computing and electronics fields, held as on the closing date. NO EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. Pay is Level 6, Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400 - a Group-B non-gazetted S&T post. Age as on 30 September: 30 for UR and EWS, 33 for OBC(NCL), 35 for SC and ST, 40 for PwBD. Serving government employees in the same or an allied cadre get five years more. The fee is Rs 800 - and women pay nothing, along with SC, ST and PwBD candidates. Note that if you apply for more than one discipline you pay Rs 800 for each. One thing to weigh honestly before applying: the post carries all-India liability, and NIC's wording is that you may be posted anywhere in India AND OUTSIDE INDIA. What you'll do

• Work as a Scientific/Technical Assistant-A in the National Informatics Centre, the Government of India's principal ICT and e-governance body under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology
• Support the building and running of national and state e-governance projects, ICT infrastructure, and departmental digital systems at central, state, district and block level
• Contribute to consultancy for government departments, research and development, and capacity building work
• Accept all-India liability - NIC states a selected candidate may be posted anywhere in India and outside India
• Attend document verification at Delhi or another location NIC approves, at your own expense, before provisional appointment

What we're looking for

• THE 376 POSTS
• Computer Sciences & Information Technology - 300 posts. UR 122, OBC(NCL) 81, SC 45, EWS 30, ST 22. GATE paper code CS.
• Data Science and Artificial Intelligence - 50 posts. UR 22, OBC(NCL) 13, SC 7, EWS 5, ST 3. GATE paper code DA.
• Electronics and Communication Engineering - 26 posts. UR 13, OBC(NCL) 7, SC 3, EWS 2, ST 1. GATE paper code EC.
• Each discipline's category split adds exactly to its own total, and the three totals add to 376. NIC calls the count tentative and may raise or lower it.
• A further 19 posts are reserved horizontally for PwBD candidates within those totals - 15 in CS&IT, 2 in DS&AI and 2 in E&C, three of them multiple-disability backlog vacancies.
• THE GATE REQUIREMENT - READ THIS FIRST
• You must hold a valid GATE score from 2024, 2025 or 2026 in the paper matching the discipline you apply for. No GATE score, no application. This is not a post you can enter by sitting a recruitment exam later, because there is no recruitment exam.
• QUALIFICATION
• A pass in M.Sc., MS, MCA, B.E. or B.Tech in Electronics, Electronics and Communication, Electronics & Telecommunication, Computer Sciences, Computer and Networking Security, Software System, Information Technology or Informatics - singly or in combination. The qualification must be held as on the closing date. NIC states that no claim of an equivalent qualification will be entertained.
• NO EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
• AGE, as on the closing date of 30.09.2026
• 30 years for UR and EWS. 33 for OBC(NCL). 35 for SC and ST. 40 for PwBD, rising to 45 for SC/ST PwBD and 43 for OBC(NCL) PwBD. Candidates already serving in government in the same or an allied cadre get five years on top of their category limit.
• PwBD relaxation applies whether or not the particular post is reserved for them, provided the post is identified as suitable.
• SELECTION - GATE SCORE ALONE
• A category-wise merit list is drawn for each discipline purely in order of GATE score. GATE 2024, 2025 and 2026 carry equal weightage, and you submit your best score from any one eligible year. There is no written test and no interview.
• Ties are broken in this order: the older year's GATE score ranks higher; then the older candidate; then the higher percentage in the essential qualification. Where a university gives CGPA with no conversion formula, a certificate from the Registrar is required.
• Shortlisted candidates are called for document verification, held at DELHI or another location NIC approves, with no TA or DA paid. Provisional appointment follows verification.
• POSTING
• Level 6 of the 7th CPC, Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400. This is a Group-B S&T non-gazetted post. It carries all-India liability - NIC states a selected candidate may be posted anywhere in India AND OUTSIDE INDIA.
