Indian Oil, a Maharatna and a Fortune Global 500 company, has advertised 470 executive posts through its own Computer Based Test - and the significant thing for candidates here is that no GATE score is involved. Advertisement IOCL/CO-HR/RECTT/2026/01, dated 14 August 2026. Jammu is test centre number 40 on IOCL's list of 83 cities. There is no Srinagar centre, so a Kashmir candidate travels for the CBT on 24 September - though SC, ST and PwBD candidates are reimbursed third AC rail fare for the CBT, and every candidate called for the Group Discussion and Interview stage is reimbursed second AC fare, provided the journey is over 30 km. Read the count carefully, because the aggregators are reporting it loosely. Grade A holds 411 posts, and 411 is not a Graduate Engineer figure. Engineering disciplines take 360 of them. The remaining 51 are two entirely separate routes - 41 posts for Officer (Marketing), which asks for an MBA or an equivalent PGDBA with a Marketing specialisation, and 10 for Law Officer, which asks for an LLB plus two years of professional practice. If you hold an MBA or an LLB and you assumed this was an engineers' advertisement, it is not. Beyond Grade A: 9 posts in Grade A0 for Assistant Quality Control Officer, open to a Master's in Chemistry, and 50 posts in Grade E0 for Diploma Engineers - Mechanical 21, Safety 15, Electrical 14 - where a three-year diploma is the qualification. Pay starts at Rs 50,000 basic in Grade A on a scale running to Rs 1,60,000, an approximate CTC of Rs 18.4 lakh a year. Grade A0 starts at Rs 40,000 with a CTC near Rs 14.8 lakh, Grade E0 at Rs 30,000 with a CTC near Rs 11.1 lakh - and that is before DA, HRA or subsidised accommodation, PRP, LTC, gratuity, provident fund and the rest of the corporation's benefits. Two things to weigh before you pay the fee. There is no state quota - vacancies are reserved on the all-India Government of India pattern for OBC(NCL), SC, ST, EWS and PwBD, and nothing is set aside for J&K. And every selected candidate signs a three-year service bond: Rs 3 lakh in Grade A, Rs 50,000 for EWS, OBC(NCL), SC, ST and PwBD candidates, with Rs 2 lakh and Rs 35,000 the corresponding figures in Grades A0 and E0. The fee is Rs 1,000 plus GST, non-refundable. SC, ST and PwBD candidates pay nothing. Note that women are not exempt here, unlike several bank recruitments running this month. Applications close on 3 September 2026 at 1700 hrs. Admit cards are due 15 September and the CBT is set for 24 September, all dates described by IOCL as tentative.

What you'll do

• Join IndianOil as an executive in Grade A, A0 or E0 and serve in the Refineries, Marketing, Pipelines, Petrochemicals, Research & Development or Business Development functions
• Take up assignments across refining, pipelines, marketing, petrochemicals, natural gas, city gas distribution, biofuels, green hydrogen, carbon capture and renewable energy businesses
• Accept posting anywhere in India at the corporation's discretion, and report on the date given in the offer of appointment
• Execute a service bond and serve the corporation for a minimum of three years from the date of joining
• Sit the Computer Based Test on 24 September 2026 at the allotted centre, then the Group Discussion, Group Task and Personal Interview if shortlisted
• Produce every original certificate at document verification before the Group Discussion and Interview stage - candidates who cannot are not permitted to continue

• GRADE A - 411 POSTS
• Engineering disciplines, 360 in all: Mechanical 118, Electrical 75, Civil 62, Instrumentation 35, Electronics & Communication 32, Computer Science and IT 22, Chemical 16.
• Qualification: full-time regular B.Tech / BE or equivalent in the listed discipline, 65% for General, EWS and OBC(NCL), 55% for SC, ST and PwBD. Upper age 26 as on 01.07.2026.
• Officer (Marketing) 41 posts. MBA or an AIU-equivalent PGDBA with specialisation in Marketing Management, 60% for General, EWS and OBC(NCL), 55% for SC, ST and PwBD. Upper age 28.
• Law Officer 10 posts. A degree in any discipline plus LLB, or the five-year integrated LLB, at 60% in each for General, EWS and OBC(NCL) and 55% for SC, ST and PwBD, the LLB recognised by the Bar Council of India. Upper age 30. This is the only post carrying an experience bar - two years of post-qualification practice as on 30.06.2026, counted from the date the final law result was declared. Practice at the Bar, law firms, and legal functions in government or in public and private sector organisations count; internships, teaching and short-term traineeships do not.
• GRADE A0 - 9 POSTS
• Assistant Quality Control Officer, Quality Control (Chemistry). Master's degree in Chemistry, Inorganic, Organic, Analytical, Physical, Applied or Industrial Chemistry, 60% for General, EWS and OBC(NCL) and 55% for SC, ST and PwBD. Upper age 30.
• GRADE E0 - 50 POSTS
• Diploma Engineer - Mechanical 21, Safety 15, Electrical 14. Three-year full-time regular diploma in engineering, 65% for General, EWS and OBC(NCL) and 55% for SC, ST and PwBD. Upper age 26. Safety additionally requires a diploma in Industrial Safety of not less than one year from a recognised university, institute or state board; PwBD candidates are not deployed against Safety.
• AGE RELAXATION
• Ages above are for General and EWS. OBC(NCL) gets three years, SC and ST five years, PwBD ten years above the category limit. Ex-servicemen and commissioned officers including ECOs and SSCOs as per extant Government of India guidelines. The matriculation or higher secondary certificate is the only proof of date of birth IOCL accepts. A CGPA is read by your institute's own conversion formula, and 59.99% is treated as below 60% - IOCL does not round up.
• SELECTION
• The CBT on 24 September carries 100 objective questions. Section A, General Aptitude, holds 50 in 60 minutes - Quantitative Aptitude 20, Logical Reasoning 15, Verbal Ability 15. Section B, Domain Knowledge, holds 50 in 90 minutes. One mark each, 0.25 deducted for a wrong answer, compensatory time for eligible PwBD candidates. The syllabus is published with the advertisement.
• Qualifying marks in the CBT: 40% in each section and 45% overall for General, EWS and OBC(NCL); 35% and 40% for SC and ST; 25% and 30% for PwBD. Shortlisting for the next stage is then done by CBT score in descending order within each discipline, so clearing the cut-off does not by itself bring a call.
• The merit list weighs the CBT at 85%, the Group Discussion and Group Task at 5% and the Personal Interview at 10%, with 40% the pass mark in each of the latter two and a composite score of 45% for General, EWS and OBC(NCL), 40% for SC and ST and 30% for PwBD.
• RESERVATION AND BOND
• Reservation follows Government of India directives for OBC(NCL), SC, ST, EWS and PwBD all-India; there is no state quota and nothing is set aside for Jammu & Kashmir. The 60 PwBD posts are a horizontal sub-allocation within the 470, not additional to them. Every selected candidate executes a three-year service bond - Rs 3 lakh in Grade A and Rs 2 lakh in Grades A0 and E0, reduced to Rs 50,000 and Rs 35,000 respectively for EWS, OBC(NCL), SC, ST and PwBD candidates.
