About this job

The Directorate General of Quality Assurance is filling 14 Group 'C' industrial posts under the Ministry of Defence - seven Technician (Skilled) and seven Technician (Semi Skilled) - and an ITI in any trade is enough for the seven Semi Skilled posts. There is no application fee of any kind. There is no interview either: a written test of 100 marks with no negative marking, then a trade test, and that is the whole process. Read the closing date carefully, because it is not the same for everyone in this UT. The advertisement gives 21 days from publication for most of the country, and 28 days only for a listed set of remote areas - which includes the Ladakh Division of J&K but NOT the Kashmir or Jammu divisions. If you are in Srinagar or Jammu you have 21 days, not 28, whatever a listing site tells you. Be clear about location before applying. The four posting stations are Secunderabad, Bengaluru, Jabalpur and Chandigarh - none in J&K, and Chandigarh is the nearest. Selected candidates are liable to serve anywhere in India including field and remote locations.

What you'll do

  • Serve as a Group 'C' non-ministerial industrial employee of DGQA under the Department of Defence Production
  • Complete two years of probation at the allotted station - Secunderabad, Bengaluru, Jabalpur or Chandigarh
  • Accept liability to serve anywhere within the Union of India, including field locations and remote areas
  • Come under the National Pension System or Unified Pension Scheme as applicable

What we're looking for

  • THE 14 POSTS
  • Technician (Skilled) - 7 posts - Pay Level-2, Rs 19,900 to 63,200
  • Technician (Semi Skilled) - 7 posts - Pay Level-1, Rs 18,000 to 56,900
  • They are spread across six DGQA establishments in four stations: Secunderabad (Telangana), Bengaluru (Karnataka), Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh) and Chandigarh.
  • QUALIFICATION
  • Technician (Semi Skilled): an ITI pass in ANY trade, or an equivalent Defence Services Tradesman course approved by the Central or a State Government. No experience is asked for.
  • Technician (Skilled): matriculation from a recognised Board, plus an ITI certificate in the specified trade or the equivalent Defence Services Tradesman course, PLUS one year of experience in that trade in a recognised organisation or undertaking.
  • AGE
  • 18 to 27 years as on the application closing date. Date of birth is taken from the matriculation certificate or birth certificate - the advertisement states specifically that Aadhaar will not be accepted as proof of date of birth.
  • Relaxation: 5 years for SC and ST but only against vacancies reserved for them; 3 years for OBC on the same condition; 3 years for Ex-Servicemen after deducting military service, rising to 6 for OBC and 8 for SC/ST ex-servicemen; departmental candidates with three years' continuous service up to 40, 43 or 45 by category.
  • SELECTION - NO INTERVIEW AT ANY STAGE
  • A written test of 90 minutes, objective multiple choice, 100 questions for 100 marks in four equal parts: General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, English Language and Comprehension, and Numerical Aptitude.
  • There is NO negative marking for wrong answers.
  • Reasoning, General Awareness and Numerical Aptitude are set in both English and Hindi. The English Language paper is in English only.
  • Shortlisted candidates then sit a Trade Test worth 100 marks, needing a minimum of 40 to qualify. The merit list is drawn trade-wise and establishment-wise.
  • Ties are broken by date of birth, the older candidate ranking higher, then by marks in Numerical Aptitude, then Reasoning, then General Awareness.
  • MEDICAL
  • Shortlisted candidates are examined at a Government hospital before any offer. Candidates found to have night blindness or colour blindness are declared medically unfit and are not appointed.
  • WHAT GETS AN APPLICATION REJECTED
  • Arriving after the due date - the advertisement says explicitly that late receipt, EVEN DUE TO POSTAL DELAY, is rejected summarily. Posting from J&K to Secunderabad, that is the single biggest risk.
  • Not using the prescribed A4 format, or an incomplete, unsigned or undated form.
  • Missing self-attested copies of the prescribed certificates.
  • Overwritten or struck-through entries - DGQA advises typing the form rather than handwriting it.
  • A serving government employee applying without routing through proper channel with an NOC.
  • Failing to disclose a higher qualification held.
  • Canvassing in any form, or approaching any serving or retired employee of the six establishments, which the advertisement says will itself cause disqualification.
  • COSTS
  • No application fee. The only outlay is a Rs 55 postal stamp on the self-addressed envelope, plus the Speed Post charge. No TA or DA is paid for the written test or trade test, and candidates arrange their own lodging and boarding.
