About this job
NTPC is recruiting 135 Deputy Managers at E-4 level across Electrical, Mechanical and Control & Instrumentation, on a scale of Rs 70,000 to Rs 2,00,000 a month.
This is a mid-career opening, not an entry-level one, and the bar is high enough that most readers of this board will not clear it: NTPC asks for a minimum of ten years of post-qualification executive experience in the power sector, specifically in coal, gas or lignite generation. Two years of that is relaxed for SC and ST candidates. If you do not already work in power generation, this advertisement is not for you.
We are listing it because the handful of engineers from J&K who do qualify - people working in NTPC itself, in NHPC, in other generation utilities or with EPC contractors on power projects - would otherwise not see it, and the window is short. Applications close on 26 August 2026.
Posting can be at any NTPC station, project, joint venture or subsidiary, and all posts are transferable at management's discretion.
What you'll do
- Work at E-4 executive level in Operation, Maintenance, Commissioning, Erection, Engineering, Energy Efficiency, Project Management or Field Quality within your discipline
- Accept posting at any NTPC station, project, joint venture or subsidiary in the country
- Clear a medical examination by the NTPC Medical Board before joining - its decision is final and no relaxation in health standards is allowed
- Serve in a transferable cadre, with transfers at the sole discretion of management
What we're looking for
- VACANCIES BY DISCIPLINE
- Mechanical - 55 - UR 21, EWS 5, OBC 14, SC 8, ST 7
- Electrical - 40 - UR 15, EWS 4, OBC 10, SC 7, ST 4
- Control & Instrumentation - 40 - UR 15, EWS 4, OBC 10, SC 6, ST 5
- Some of the SC and ST figures include backlog vacancies. NTPC states the totals may rise or fall with organisational requirement.
- QUALIFICATION
- Deputy Manager (Electrical) - full-time B.E. or B.Tech in Electrical, or Electrical & Electronics, with at least 60 per cent.
- Deputy Manager (Mechanical) - full-time B.E. or B.Tech in Mechanical or Production, with at least 60 per cent.
- Deputy Manager (C&I) - full-time B.E. or B.Tech in Electronics, Control & Instrumentation, or Instrumentation, with at least 60 per cent.
- SC, ST and PwBD candidates need pass marks only. Every qualification must be full-time from a university or institution recognised and approved in India.
- THE EXPERIENCE BAR - READ THIS FIRST
- A minimum of ten years of post-qualification executive experience, including any training period, in the power sector - coal, gas or lignite - in Operation, Maintenance, Commissioning, Erection, Engineering, Energy Efficiency, Project Management or Field Quality, or a combination of these, in the relevant discipline. Relaxed by two years for SC and ST candidates.
- Candidates presently in government or public sector undertakings must also have completed at least two of those ten years in the pay scale Rs 60,000-1,80,000 or above - the IDA E-3 grade or an NTPC equivalent, effective 01.01.2017 - and must produce a pay-scale circular or matrix proving it, together with a No Objection Certificate from their employer.
- AGE
- Upper limit 40 years for all three posts, computed as on 26 August 2026. Relaxation of five years for SC and ST, three for OBC-NCL, ten for PwBD, and as per government guidelines for Ex-Servicemen.
- SELECTION
- Shortlisting or screening on qualification, percentage of marks and years of post-qualification experience, followed by a written or computer-based test, a personal interview, or a combination - the sequence is at NTPC's discretion. Meeting the minimum eligibility confers no right to be shortlisted, and NTPC reserves the right to raise the bar above the advertised minimum.
- DOCUMENTS TO UPLOAD - INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS ARE REJECTED
- Class X certificate and PAN card for name and date of birth, which must agree across documents. The B.E. or B.Tech final or provisional certificate. A consolidated marksheet or transcript showing aggregate marks for all semesters. Your university's CGPA-to-percentage conversion formula. Caste, EWS or disability certificate in the current central format - OBC-NCL for FY 2026-27, EWS for FY 2026-27 based on FY 2025-26 income, disability generated through the Swavalamban or UDID portal showing type and percentage.
- Experience papers are the demanding part. For each organisation, in chronological order: a service certificate in NTPC's own prescribed format, offer and appointment letters, confirmation or absorption letter, training completion order, joining order, role assignment orders, promotion and transfer orders, organisation charts, Form-16, and two payslips for every year served.
