282 Group 'A' doctor posts across the Central Armed Police Forces, and an MBBS with a completed internship is enough to enter at the Assistant Commandant level on Level-10 of the pay matrix. Read the name of this recruitment carefully, because almost every website has it wrong. This is the CAPF Medical Officer Selection Board 2025, run by the Directorate General of ITBP on behalf of the Ministry of Home Affairs - but the posts are in BSF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB and Assam Rifles. ITBP conducts it; ITBP is not where most of the vacancies are. You name your preference among all five forces when you apply, and that preference is final once submitted. Two things make this unusually reachable. There is no written examination - selection is a 200-mark interview, then a physical standard test and a medical. And candidates still serving their compulsory rotating internship may apply and sit the interview, provided the internship is finished before appointment. For candidates from here there is a specific concession worth knowing: the minimum height is relaxed by 2 cm for candidates belonging to the Kashmir region of the UT of Jammu & Kashmir and to the UT of Ladakh, alongside Dogras and several other groups.

What you'll do

• Serve as a commissioned Group 'A' medical officer in whichever of the five forces you are allotted
• Work anywhere in India or abroad as service requires, frequently in extreme climatic conditions and often as the only doctor in the unit
• Undergo basic training and such other courses as the Force prescribes after appointment
• Serve a minimum of ten years - resigning earlier means refunding three months' pay and allowances or the cost of your training, whichever is higher
• Remain on probation for two years, extendable by one further year

• Super Specialist Medical Officer (Second-in-Command) - 5 - ITBP only, one each in Neurology, Neurosurgery, Gastroenterology, Cardiology and Nephrology.

• QUALIFICATION
• Medical Officer (Assistant Commandant) - a recognised allopathic medical qualification under the Indian Medical Council Act 1956, permanent MCI, NMC or State Medical Council registration before appointment, and a completed compulsory rotating internship. Candidates currently doing the internship may apply and attend the interview if it will be complete before appointment.
• Specialist Medical Officer - the above plus a PG Degree or Diploma in the concerned speciality, with one and a half years' experience in that speciality after a PG Degree, or two and a half years after a PG Diploma.
• Super Specialist Medical Officer - MBBS, State Medical Register enrolment, completed internship, a PG Degree or Diploma in the related speciality, and a DM or M.Ch with three years' experience in the super-speciality after the first post-graduate degree. Senior residency counts towards that experience.
• AGE ON 8 SEPTEMBER 2026
• Medical Officer not over 30, Specialist not over 40, Super Specialist not over 50. Relaxations: SC and ST five years, OBC-NCL three years, civilian central government servants five years, Army Medical Corps Short Service Commissioned Officers five years - rising to ten years for SC/ST and eight for OBC in those two categories.
• PHYSICAL STANDARDS
• Men 157.5 cm tall with a chest of 77 cm unexpanded and 82 cm expanded. Women 142 cm, with no chest measurement. Height is relaxed by 2 cm for candidates from the Kashmir region of J&K and from Ladakh, and for Dogras, Gorkhas, Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Marathas and candidates from eight north-eastern states and Himachal Pradesh - and by 3 cm for Scheduled Tribes. A certificate is required to claim it. Weight must be proportionate to height and age.
• MEDICAL STANDARDS
• Near vision N6 in the better eye and N9 in the worse. Distant vision 6/6 or 6/9 in the better eye and 6/12 or 6/9 in the worse, corrected. Hypermetropia up to +3.50 DS and myopia up to -4.5 DS. Colour vision must be CP-III on Ishihara plates; below that bars appointment. Radial keratotomy and other refraction surgery are not permitted, though Lasik is allowed against stated criteria. Knock-knees, flat foot and squint disqualify. A tattoo clause applies. A candidate found unfit may ask for a Review Medical Examination by giving written consent within 24 hours.
• SELECTION
• Documentation, then an interview carrying 200 marks with a minimum qualifying standard of 40 per cent, that is 80 marks, the same for every category. Candidates who fail the interview are eliminated. Physical Standard Test follows on the same or the next day, then the Medical Examination Test. The merit list is built on interview marks alone, with separate lists for SC/ST, OBC-NCL and EWS.
• CONDITIONS WORTH KNOWING BEFORE YOU APPLY
• Private practice of any kind, including consultancy and laboratory practice, is not permitted.
• A PG entrance examination may be attempted only after five years of regular service.
• A candidate who has contracted a bigamous marriage is not eligible.
• Travelling allowance for the interview is payable only beyond the first 250 km of each journey, only to candidates who are not already in government service, and may require an unemployment certificate from an MP, MLA or Gazetted Officer.
