About this job
Bank of Baroda has advertised 2,482 Local Bank Officer posts, and 15 of them are ring-fenced for Jammu & Kashmir - General 8, OBC 3, ST 2, SC 1 and EWS 1, with one of the fifteen reserved horizontally for a candidate with locomotor disability. Advertisement BOB/HRM/REC/ADVT/2026/16, dated 18 August 2026.
Three things make this worth a serious look if you already hold a bank officer's job.
The first is where you sit the exam. The test centres for this state are JAMMU, SRINAGAR AND SAMBA. Srinagar is on the list - which is not something we could say about the IOCL recruitment posted yesterday, where Jammu was the only J&K centre on a list of 83 cities.
The second is where you work afterwards. Selected candidates are posted WITHIN THE STATE THEY APPLY FOR for the first 12 years of service, or until promotion to SMGS-IV, whichever comes first. Apply against the J&K vacancies and you are in J&K for over a decade. That is unusually explicit for a national bank.
The third is the language requirement, which works in your favour here rather than against you. The local languages recognised for J&K are Urdu, Kashmiri and Dogri. Shortlisted candidates must clear a Local Language Proficiency Test - but if your 10th or 12th marksheet shows you studied the language as a subject, you are exempt from the test altogether.
The catch, and it is a real one: this is not an entry-level advertisement. You need a graduate degree in any discipline AND at least one year of post-qualification experience as an OFFICER in a scheduled commercial bank. Clerical service does not count, however long. If your experience letter's job profile does not substantially match a Bank of Baroda Scale-I officer's work, the Bank says it will reject the application at any stage.
Pay is the JMG/S-I scale, Rs 48,480 rising to Rs 85,920, and the Bank grants one advance increment for the officer experience you had to have in the first place. Probation is a year, and a three-year service bond applies - leave early and you owe three months' gross salary, capped at Rs 2 lakh.
The fee is Rs 850 including GST for General, EWS and OBC candidates and Rs 175 for SC, ST, PwBD, ex-servicemen and WOMEN. Women do get the concession here, which they did not on the IOCL advertisement.
Selection is a 120-question online test - English is qualifying only and its marks do not count towards merit - then the language test, then a group discussion and interview. Negative marking is 0.25 per wrong answer.
Applications close on 7 September 2026. You may apply for one state only.
What you'll do
- Work as a Local Bank Officer in JMG Scale-I at Bank of Baroda branches in the state you apply for
- Serve within that state for the first 12 years of service, or until promotion to SMGS-IV grade, whichever comes first
- Complete 12 months of probation from the date of joining
- Execute a three-year service bond, or pay three months' gross salary capped at Rs 2 lakh on early exit
- Handle the branch-level officer functions set out in Annexure-I of the advertisement, which the Bank may revise from time to time
- Deal with customers in the local language of the state - Urdu, Kashmiri or Dogri for the Jammu & Kashmir vacancies
What we're looking for
- WHO CAN APPLY
- Graduation in any discipline from a recognised University or Institution, plus a minimum of one year of post-qualification experience as an OFFICER in a Scheduled Commercial Bank listed in the Second Schedule of the Reserve Bank of India. Clerical-cadre service is not counted. Experience of under six months anywhere is disregarded unless it is your current employment. You must submit an experience certificate with a job profile from your employer, and if that profile does not substantially match a Bank of Baroda Scale-I officer's, the application is rejected at any stage.
- Four certifications are named as preferred, not mandatory: IC 38 of the Insurance Institute of India, NISM Series V-A (Mutual Fund Distributors), NISM Series XXI-A (Portfolio Management Services Distributors) and NISM Series XIII (Common Derivatives).
- LANGUAGE
- For the Jammu & Kashmir vacancies the local languages are URDU, KASHMIRI or DOGRI, and proficiency means reading, writing, speaking and understanding. Shortlisted candidates sit a Local Language Proficiency Test, and failing it stops you before the interview. You are exempt from that test if your 10th or 12th marksheet shows the language as a subject you studied - keep that certificate ready.
- AGE, as on 01.08.2026
- 21 to 30 years. Relaxation: SC and ST 5 years, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) 3 years, PwBD 10 years for General and EWS. There is NO ex-servicemen reservation in the officers' cadre, though the fee concession applies.
- WHO CANNOT APPLY
- Anyone currently in Bank of Baroda's officer cadre or engaged on contract. Anyone who resigned from an officer-grade post at the Bank, or exited while on contract, within the last three years of the cut-off date.
- PAY AND TERMS
- JMG/S-I scale: Rs 48,480 rising to Rs 85,920, with allowances and benefits under the industry-level bipartite settlement. ONE ADVANCE INCREMENT is granted for the one year or more of officer experience you are required to have. Probation is 12 months of active service.
- There is a service bond. You must serve three years, or pay the Bank three months' gross salary, capped at Rs 2 lakh, if you leave earlier.
- SELECTION
- An online test of 120 questions and 120 marks over 120 minutes, in four separately timed sections of 30 questions each: English Language (qualifying only - its marks do not enter the merit list), Banking Knowledge, General and Economic Awareness, and Reasoning Ability with Quantitative Aptitude. All sections except English are bilingual. There is a 0.25-mark penalty for every wrong answer; blanks are not penalised.
- The online test is followed by the Language Proficiency Test, then a Group Discussion and/or Personal Interview, and the Bank may add a psychometric test. Where two candidates tie at the cut-off, the older is ranked higher. Merit lists are drawn state-wise and category-wise.
