The Army Ordnance Corps has advertised 2,615 Group 'C' civilian posts, and 2,461 of them ask for nothing beyond a 10th pass. That makes this the widest-reaching central recruitment open to J&K candidates right now by a very long way. Tradesman Mate alone accounts for 1,799 posts. Add Fireman at 520 and Multi-Tasking Staff at 142 and you have the bulk of the advertisement sitting at matriculation level. Only the 104 Junior Office Assistant posts need Class 12 with typing, and only the 50 Material Assistant posts need a degree - though that one pays on Level-5, from Rs 29,200. Applications are open to eligible Indian citizens generally. There is no state quota and no domicile restriction in the advertisement, so J&K candidates apply on the same footing as everyone else. One thing to plan around: the portal does not open until 24 August 2026. Nothing can be submitted before that date, whatever any website suggests. The window then runs to 23 September.

• Note the Hindi typing alternative for JOA. Several websites list only the English requirement, which shuts out candidates who would in fact qualify.

• WRITTEN EXAMINATION
• One hundred objective multiple-choice questions carrying one hundred marks, over two hours, in four equal sections of 25 questions each - General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, Numerical Aptitude and English Language.
• There is negative marking of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer. On a hundred-mark paper that is worth taking seriously: four wrong guesses cancel a correct one.
• SYLLABUS AS PRINTED
• Reasoning - analogy, coding-decoding, series, blood relations, direction sense, classification, Venn diagrams, non-verbal series, shuffle test.
• General Awareness - Indian history, geography, Indian polity, Indian economy, general science, current affairs, national and international events, defence-related news.
• Numerical Aptitude - number system, simplification, percentage, profit and loss, ratio and proportion, time and work, time and distance, data interpretation.
• English - grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, comprehension, spotting errors.
• PHYSICAL EFFICIENCY TEST, WHERE APPLICABLE
• 1.6 km run within 6 minutes 30 seconds. Beam or pull-ups, minimum 6. Nine-foot ditch - qualifying. Zig-zag balance - qualifying.
• The advertisement says the PET applies wherever applicable rather than to every post, so check the detailed notification against the post you choose.
• SELECTION SEQUENCE
• Written examination, then Physical Efficiency Test where applicable, then the typing test for Junior Office Assistant only, then document verification and finally a medical examination.
