The J&K Public Service Commission has invited online applications for 70 backlog Assistant Professor posts in Government Colleges under the Higher Education Department, through Notification No. 06-PSC (DR-P) of 2026 dated 31 July 2026, on the reference of Higher Education Department No. HED-GAZ/85/2022-04 (157353) dated 01 June 2026. These are backlog vacancies of the 1st Special Drive, carried forward from Notification No. 06-PSC(DR-P) of 2023 and Notification No. 17-PSC(DR-P) of 2023, and they are spread across 24 disciplines. Political Science alone accounts for 23 of the 70. Recruitment is under the J&K Education (Gazetted) College Service Recruitment Rules, 2026, notified vide SO-125 of 2026 dated 29 April 2026, read with the JKPSC (Business and Procedure) Rules, 2021, and is open only to domiciles of the Union Territory. Applications opened on 01 August 2026 and close on 31 August 2026. This is a separate advertisement from the 205-post fresh recruitment under Advt 05 - a candidate may be eligible for both, and each is applied for on its own.

What we're looking for

• Open only to domiciles of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir
• A Master's degree with 55 per cent marks in the concerned, relevant or allied subject - 50 per cent for SC, ST and differently abled candidates, and for PhD holders who took their Master's before 19 September 1991 - from an Indian university, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university, or an equivalent grade where a point scale is used
• Beyond the degree, the candidate must have cleared NET conducted by the UGC or CSIR, or an accredited equivalent such as SLET or SET
• A PhD awarded in accordance with the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedures) Regulations 2009 or 2016 exempts the candidate from NET, SLET or SET
• Candidates registered for a PhD before 11 July 2009 are exempt subject to five conditions set out in the notice - regular-mode award, thesis evaluated by two external examiners, open viva voce, two published research papers with at least one in a refereed journal, and two papers presented at sponsored conferences or seminars, all certified by the Registrar or Dean (Academic Affairs)
• NET, SLET or SET is also not required in disciplines for which no such test is conducted
• A PhD from a foreign university ranked in the world top 500 by QS, Times Higher Education or ARWU (Shanghai) also qualifies
• Minimum and maximum age are reckoned as on 01 January 2026. By the corrigendum of 07 August 2026 the upper age for in-service candidates and government servants is 45 years instead of 40
• No hard copy of the application is to be submitted - a downloaded copy is produced with the originals at document verification
